Bought for £1200 in as-new condition and converted to a sailing canoe using brand new Solway Dory equipment costing £2,680, total £3880.
Sailed less than 20 times. The canoe and equipment have always been kept in dry, damp-free storage and therefore still in virtually as-new condition.
44 sqft Bermudan Solway Dory rig and sails well, close to wind, easy to tack, very quick; got up to 10 knots at Rutland Water OCSG September 2025 meet.
The outrigger is positioned just behind the seat, which doubles as a hiking seat which works really well – also bolts on to gunwale at the more traditional location next to mast if required.
As a 3 seater and 16 1/2 feet long it has higher than average gunwales and a higher bow and stern, resulting in very little water splashing in from waves in high winds, waves or heeling – unusual for a sailing canoe.
Has a flat-ish hull with gentle rocker so in high-wind sailing planes well. Admired by fellow OCSG Members at various meets and comes with Solway Dory launching trolley and large size brand new black buoyancy bags – unused.
